When you enroll in a Learning Across America class you acknowledge that you’ve read, understood and agreed to comply with the policies and terms set forth in the following important documents:

Student Policies

Classes
Until June 30, 2023, our courses feature hybrid classes that combine online (Zoom) learning with in-person, expertly guided "out and about" experiences in the city you've chosen to visit and study. If the U.S. Department of State allows hybrid classes again, we will offer them.

Starting from July 1, 2023, each of our classes will be fully in-person.

All our classes take place live with your participation as well as that of your teacher and fellow students. Classes require each student to take an active role in group discussions, activities, projects and the like. In short, your full attention and participation are required, whether it be in the classroom or out and about with your teacher.

Attendance
Since each Learning America course consists of a limited number of class sessions, Towson University requires you to attend -- and actively participate in -- each class from its start time to its end time. If you fail to do so, you will not be eligible to receive a certificate of completion. Class attendance is carefully monitored by Towson University.

Educational certificate of completion
Students will be given 3 weeks to complete their post-assignment and turn it into their teacher. Once you submit your post-assignment, you will receive your certificate of completion directly from Towson University within 10 days, assuming you have satisfactorily completed all course work. Feel free to turn your assignment in as soon as you complete it, as this will allow us to get your certificate to you sooner.

Students who require their certificate sooner than outlined above should request their final assignment in advance by contacting Learning Across America by email.

Cancellation, refunds and transfers
If you cancel…
- 22 or more days before the start of the first class, you will receive a full refund.
- 21 to 11 days before the start of the first class, you will receive a full refund less a $50 cancellation fee.
- 10 days or less before the start of the first class, you will not receive a refund. You will instead receive a credit that can be applied toward the tuition price of any Learning Across America course. The credit will be in the amount of the tuition you paid, less a $75 cancellation fee. The credit is good for a year and is transferable.
- Once the class begins, there is neither a refund nor a credit.

As an alternative, please be aware that should you need to cancel, we offer the flexibility to transfer your enrollment in the same course to another au pair without penalty, provided we receive notice at least 3 days before the start of the course.

Students who must cancel their course need to send an email to Learning Across America. The cancellation request must be sent directly by the student. Please make sure that the subject line of your email is Attention: Cancellation of Course.

Transfer Policy
If you decide to transfer to another Learning Across America course…
- 22 or more days before the start of your original course, you may transfer without penalty.
- 11 to 21 days before the start of your original course, a $50 transfer fee will apply.
- 10 days or less before the start of your original course, there is no transfer permitted.
- Once the class begins, there is no transfer permitted.

COVID Policy

It’s important to self-monitor for COVID symptoms before the in-person phase of your class begins. Should you develop symptoms you should isolate and get tested. Should you develop symptoms during the 10-day period before the in-person phase of your class, please contact us immediately so we can help you address the situation appropriately.

Students who risk the safety of their fellow classmates and fail to comply with the COVID policies of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, local authorities as well as Learning Across America and any of its partner schools will be asked to leave the program and will not be eligible for a refund.

By attending a Learning Across America course, you acknowledge and voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID.

Release of Liability

In consideration of your participation as a student in the Learning Across America (LAA) Program, you agree as follows:

1. You agree to observe and obey all rules, instructions, policies, directions, and warnings given by LAA, or its employees, representatives or agents.

2. You recognize that there are certain inherent risks associated with the LAA program.  These risks include, but are not limited to, travel and transportation, participating in off-campus excursions and activities such as local tours.  Please note: LAA contracts with Cultural Horizons Unlimited, Inc. to provide any and all excursions and activities such as local tours.

You assume full responsibility for personal injury to myself and further release and discharge LAA (and its employees, representatives and agents, including Cultural Horizons Unlimited, Inc.) for injury, loss or damage arising out of participating in the Learning Across America program, whether caused by your fault or that of other parties.

3. You agree to indemnify and defend LAA against all claims, causes of action, damages, judgments, costs or expenses, including attorney fees and other litigation costs, which may in any way arise from your participation in the Learning Across America program.

4. You agree to pay for any damages to the facilities of any venue where classes are held, caused by your negligent, reckless, or willful actions.

5. Any legal or equitable claim that may arise from participation in the above shall be resolved under Florida law.

6. You agree and acknowledge that you are under no pressure or duress to agree to this Release of Liability and that you have been given a reasonable opportunity to review it.

7. This Release of Liability and each of its terms are the product of an arms’ length negotiation between the Parties.  In the event any ambiguity is found to exist in the interpretation of this Release of Liability, or any of its provisions, the Parties, and each of them, explicitly reject the application of any legal or equitable rule of interpretation which would lead to a construction either “for” or “against” a particular party based upon its status as the drafter of a specific term, language or provision giving rise to such ambiguity.

8. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of this Release of Liability, whether standing alone or as applied to a particular occurrence or circumstance, shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision of this Release of Liability or of any other application of such provision, as the case may be, and such invalid or unenforceable provision shall be deemed not to be a part of this Release of Liability.

9. In lieu of litigation and jury trials, each of which is expressly waived, any dispute concerning, relating or referring to this Release of Liability shall be resolved exclusively by binding arbitration in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, according to the then existing commercial rules of the American Arbitration Association.  Such proceeding will be governed by the substantive law of the State of Florida. The arbitrator(s) and not any federal, state, or local court or agency shall have exclusive authority to resolve any dispute relating to the interpretation, applicability, enforceability, conscionability, or formation of this Release of Liability, including but not limited to any claim that all or any part of this Release of Liability is void or voidable.
